Briny Deep Band Plate

Here is a plate I designed with the crustacean band playing under some lanterns for my May Assignment for Lilla Rogers Studio School. The assignment was to mess about with pattern backgrounds and add some dark crustaceans on the top.

Inspired by this vintage postcard of a lobster playing guitar that Meghann Rader posted to the class, I started drawing crustaceans playing instruments, and I didn’t want to stop.

 

And then, even though it seems more logical to make a brightly colored scene on a white background, I just had to put them under water in the cool blue of the evening, spangled by bubbles and glimmers from lanterns.

Then my sweetie Greg Cook helped me plop it onto a plate with photoshop. Thanks Greg!
