SAFE CROSSING on Texas Bluebonnet List
It is such an honor to share the news that Safe Crossing is featured on the Texas Bluebonnet Award List for 2026-27! The list was just released Nov. 8. What a great list of books! Congratulations to all the other authors of books on the list!

What is the Texas Bluebonnet Award List you ask? The Texas Library Association explains: “Each year, a committee of librarians selects 20 outstanding books” written to engage 3rd-6th graders.
Participating students across the state of Texas “read at least five books from the list.” In January, each student gets to vote for their favorite. The winning book is selected by popular vote by students. “The author of the book receiving the most votes wins the Texas Bluebonnet Award.”
Thanks so much to the Texas Library Association for leading such a wonderful project to encourage literacy. And thanks to Chronicle Books for publishing Safe Crossing. I am so happy that the book’s inclusion on the Texas Bluebonnet Award List will be helping to share the message so widely: that citizen science and wildlife conservation are within everyone’s reach if we just take the time to get curious about our neighbors and look around for opportunities to help.
