My Shepard List of “the best books for toddlers & preschoolers on how & why to grow a food garden”

When the editor of Shepard.com asked me to share a list of favorite books to go with my debut picture book How to Say Hello to a Worm: A First Guide to Outside, I searched my go-to shelf from Early Birds Garden Club, and picked out some classics that I could always count on to draw even the wiggliest toddlers and preschoolers and get them excited about the whys and hows of growing food. I also was excited to add a few more recent, beautiful titles that inspire wonder at the beauty and mystery of gardening for the littlest listeners and book-lookers.

Shepard editors “ask authors to share their favorite books around topics and themes they are passionate about and why they recommend each book.” They want to re-create “the experience of wandering around your favorite bookstore but reimagined for the online world.” Visit Shepard.com to see my list and after that, you’ll want to check out the favorite book lists of other favorite authors.
