NYPL Best Books of 2025 includes SAFE CROSSING

I am so amazed to report that The New York Public Library (NYPL) added SAFE CROSSING to their list of BEST BOOKS OF 2025. I was invited to the 5th Avenue Main Library of the NYPL for a morning reception with all the other authors and illustrators on the list. It was so lovely to meet some of the other picture book authors there. And it was lovely to meet the members of the committee who told me how much SAFE CROSSING moved them.
I was glad to be able to present a READ poster to Louise Lareau, Managing Librarian, Children’s Center, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library at The New York Public Library.

I hope SAFE CROSSING being added to this list means that more children and their families will be inspired to find out about citizen science projects for wildlife conservation happening around where they live. SAFE CROSSING is about amphibians, but there are also citizen science projects about song birds and other migratory birds, bees and native pollinators, herring and other migratory fish, native wildflowers, and many others. Check out SciStarter, or Society for Science, or the National Geographic Citizen Science Projects for ideas.
A big thank you to Chronicle Books for helping facilitate my attendance at the reception! Thanks so much to the New York Public Library for this tremendous honor!
You can find SAFE CROSSING at your favorite bookseller. This helps local bookstores stay afloat and also helps more people find out about the books you love. If they are sold out of copies in the shop, they will order one for you. Or use the button below to order from the publisher:
