Relief Printmaking Workshops

I’ve led printmaking workshops with groups of all ages, from ages 6 to adult. There are lots of ways to make printing plates: I’ve had good luck with sticky-back craft foam, but its also fun to experiment with cardboard, string pictures, and other materials. It’s really exciting to do the peel-reveal where the first print is seen! I always encourage my students to make a signed edition to give as gifts or to post around. They can make as many as they want as long as they make one for me.

I was invited to the branches of the Boston Public Library to do a poster printing workshop for teens and families called: SAY IT! We looked at books of 20th century print posters and shared something we liked and why. Then we brainstormed ideas for slogans and text ideas to share, and what images would help show that idea powerfully. Some students chose to just make images without text. The variety of the final works were beautiful, bold and amazing!

I also brought printmaking workshops to The Native Plant Trust. Adult students chose plants to represent and researched ecological relationships and biodiversity concepts to show graphically in a print.
