Woodthrush and Pussy-willows: Inspired by Scenic Vintage Plates for February MATS Bootcamp 2015

I love this time of year, when there is loads of snow, but underneath, the trees are starting to send sap up, the sun is out longer, birds are getting busy. I have cut pussywillow branches in my kitchen for Groundhog Day, which are starting to open. I am so inspired by (jealous of?) these vintage scenic plates from a pussy-willow babies tea set from Japan. (below, from http://www.laurelleaffarm.com).  I painted these little pussy-willow scenes with a wood thrush. The thrush is singing, and my idea is that the pussy-willows are fancifully  peeking at it, looking sly and feline, like they would pounce if they weren’t just twigs and flowers.
